Launch Programme

The HRAEN launch activity programme in 2014-15 involved 1,800 people across the Hastings & Rother region including: 830 primary pupils, 861 secondary students, 65 teachers and 22 artists. The programme was funded by a range of project funders and matched by Artswork as part of its Partnership Investment programme.

ARTS & CULTURAL EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS
Consisting of 3 separate projects this strand developed new partnerships between schools, cultural organisations and artists.

The START programme at the Jerwood introduced young people to the gallery, engaging them in critical thinking and the creation of their own work.

The ASSEMBLE project linked Bexhill schools with the De La Warr Pavilion and it's Magum Photos exhibition through which pupils developed new creative work.

BEING RURAL connected 3 rural primary schools; Staplecross, Salehurst and Northiam with artists, using Great Dixter as a 'home' for inspiration, linking rural landscape with digital technology.

ARTS & EMOTIONAL WELLBEING
Three emotional wellbeing courses run in 3 rural community colleges. Commissioned by East Sussex County Council Targeted Youth Support this project worked with two local artists; story teller Hilary Watkins and artist Lorna Hamilton-Brown and Y7-Y9 students to address personal challenges, connecting with others and reflections on their mental health.

PARTICIPATORY PROGRAMMES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Working with drama students at Robertsbridge Community College the Young Theatre Promoters developed new skills as event promoters in partnership with Applause Rural Touring and Robertsbridge Arts Partnership.

The Young Museum Curators at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery took young people into the heart of the museum decision making process and the Arts Champions scheme enabled 36 young people from secondary schools across the region to become cultural experts, linking their peers to the HRAEN network.

RESIDENCIES
Two residencies one with dance company Hofesh Shecter and one with the RSC were developed to address the needs for young people to access high quality arts experiences.
