WHO WE ARE Bexhill Museum is an independent charity museum, which provides cultural and artistic education and provides access to a unique and varied collection. From fashion and dinosaurs to local history, world cultures and Bexhill's motor racing heritage, Bexhill Museum has something for everyone. The museum offers an exciting and varied education programme and includes: temporary exhibitions, children's holiday activities, talks, guided walks, outings, special projects, schools workshops and an outreach service. The Museum works in partnership with many local and regional organisations and community groups, is an accredited museum and a registered charity (No.1102638). WORKING WITH SCHOOLS The museum has a dedicated Volunteer Education Team run by retired teaching professionals who plan and run the schools programme. Also Freelancers run special projects and events for schools, colleges and local training providers. The museum has a fully equipped education room & digital access centre for students on site. PAST PROJECTS WW1 Project in 2013-14 included: Primary Teacher’s Training Day. Bexhill High yr9 art workshops with artist and then visit. Tailor-made 2 day engagement projects for Bexhill High 8yr history students & 2 local Primary Schools. Schools visits to exhibition, teachers pack and outreach handling box for 2014 – 2018. Culture Shift develops and delivers ambitious arts partnership programmes in schools, community and health settings. We were set up in 2011 building on the legacy of Creative Partnerships in East Sussex. We can:
WORKING WITH SCHOOLS We can respond to requests or develop projects with schools, often leading on funding bids. Previous projects have included school and cultural organisation learning partnerships in Brighton and Worthing and leading on the HRAEN programme in 2014-2015. PAST PROJECTS Telling Your Story – a wellbeing programme in 3 Hastings/Bexhill secondary schools, offering young people needing support around mental health and wellbeing access to 8 after school creative sessions. Delivered by an artist and youth worker, these programmes were responsive to young people’s needs/interests, offering a valued creative space in schools. OPPORTUNITIES We deliver the Creative Café programme– a series of alternative careers events, which enable young people to meet people working in the creative and cultural industries. The De La Warr Pavilion is a centre for arts and culture in an iconic modernist building by the sea. With artists and audiences at its heart, it produces an innovative and integrated programme that reflects and expands the world in which we live. The De La Warr Pavilion offers high quality encounters with the arts and opportunities to develop connections, curiosity, understanding, skills and creative potential. The Pavilion is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation and a registered charity (No.1065586) WORKING WITH SCHOOLS We work with schools supporting KS1 – KS5 pupils to develop creative thinking and practical skills, build confidence, enable personal progression and a growth mindset. We encourage and facilitate cross-curricular and extra-curricular learning, bringing creativity to EBacc subjects and STEM learning. PAST PROJECTS Year 7 pupils from St.Richard’s Catholic College interviewed artist Simon Patterson during the installation of his exhibition, and produced AudioFiles -personal responses reflecting on selected artworks. Some pupils went on to participate in a kite design workshop. Glyndebourne is a world-class opera house in the Sussex countryside with an award-winning year-round education programme. Glyndebourne Youth Opera provides unique performance opportunities and open workshops for 9 to 19 year olds in the local area. East Sussex Music offers a range of music opportunities to children and young people across the county. Our team of experienced music teachers provides group and individual musical instrumental and vocal lessons in schools and other local venues. Choirs, bands and orchestras at the Saturday morning music centre and summer school courses offer further opportunities to play at every level and to perform in concerts. Schools can buy in whole class instrumental lessons, music curriculum provision, one-off workshops and specialist music CPD. Large-scale events such as Big Sings and secondary school proms are annual features. WORKING WITH SCHOOLS We have a range of services we offer to schools, including whole class instrumental tuition, workshops and after school clubs. We can develop bespoke programmes and can provide PPA cover. We provide specialist CPD and support schools with self-assessment of music provision, Arts Award and ArtsMark. PAST PROJECTS Development of the Ready for School project, currently being piloted with 8 pre-schools and school reception classes, which is a programme of music workshops delivered by early years music practitioners specifically aimed at improving speech and language development. This specially developed 50 seat cinema aims to bring to Hastings a wide choice of films and film related events, with regular screenings of Contemporary, Classic and World Cinema. We also put on live comedy, music and theatre events. We have a licenced bar and offer a tempting range of soft drinks and snacks. We rely on a team of volunteers to staff the screenings and on your ongoing support to maintain a diverse and exciting programme. The Electric Palace is open to everyone. It is also available to hire for private film screenings, parties, meetings, festivals, rehearsals and conferences. WORKING WITH SCHOOLS We can work with schools through workshops, screenings, events, potential to fundraise for film based projects to run in collaboration, both as a venue and as workshop leaders. PAST PROJECTS Hidden Connections: Electric Palace Cinema, the Stade Education Project and the Fishermen’s Protection Society worked in partnership to commission three new films reworking archive footage of Hastings and St Leonards. Opened in March 2012, the award-winning Jerwood Gallery sits next to the fishing beach in Hastings’ historic Old Town. The gallery is home to the Jerwood Collection of 20th and 21st century art and a varied exhibition programme showcasing the best of modern and contemporary British art. The Jerwood Collection’s main focus is from the First World War to the 1960s. Highlights include works by some of the great British artists including Sir Stanley Spencer, LS Lowry and Walter Sickert. The collection, which continues to grow, also features contemporary works by artists including Rose Wylie, Maggie Hambling and Jeffery Camp. LAST SCHOOL PROJECTS We celebrated the final year of the Start programme, funded by the Princes Foundations for Children and the Arts and the Magdalen and Lasher Charity, developed in partnership with Culture Shift. The programme enabled the gallery to work with twelve local schools, at primary and secondary levels. OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCHOOLS The gallery welcomes many school visits, these can either independently led or there is an option to book a workshop or tour with an artist educator. The gallery regularly provides CPD workshops with qualified training providers. There is a dedicated schools programme ‘Pearls of the Sea at Jerwood Gallery’, currently working with ten local schools. The gallery also welcomes general school visits. The gallery is interested in talking to schools keen to work with the gallery on bespoke projects. |

Kino Teatr is a Cinema and live art space, gallery and restaurant. The auditorium is a refurbished Victorian cinema, formerly the St Leonards Curzon built in 1913. The Kitchen restaurant serves brunch, lunch and dinner every day and the Baker Mamanova gallery shows a schedule of 20th century exhibitions throughout the year. Kino Teatr programmes a range of cinema screenings, plays and live music/art events all year round and is available for private hire and collaborations. PB Education Services is an Arts Award training agency, providing public and in-house Arts Award training and developmental support in London and across the South East. I am also the lead Arts Award trainer for SEN practitioners in London and the South East. I also offer consultancy and training on creative curriculum in primary schools, with dance as a specialism; and strategic developmental support to alternative education provision. I run Hastings Salsa, with opportunities for community partner and social dancing, and am trained to deliver inclusive dance classes. WORKING WITH SCHOOLS I can work with schools in a developmental capacity, particularly around using dance across the curriculum, and planning and developing Arts Award delivery at all levels, including Gold as an alternative to the EPQ. I can deliver in-house Arts Award training at Discover and Explore and Bronze and Silver levels. Storytelling, spoken word & music event, hosted by professional storyteller and youth worker, Hilary Watkins. Always varied, sometimes extraordinary and occasionally naughty Meet of the Tongue is a contemporary ceilidh. The tradition has no clear line between audience and performer and provides a generous and eclectic space for young adults to perform alongside top level visiting professionals in the three art forms and local regular performers who include students from Pestalozzi International village. WORKING WITH SCHOOLS We book visiting professional performance poets, musicians, and storytellers who are also available for workshops in primary and secondary schools. Free Pre-show conversations with professional performers. Special 13-25 events to showcase and develop work of young adults plus family events for all. PAST PROJECTS July 2014: A successful 13-25 event for young performers featuring 18 year old Brighton base performance poet Tommy Sissons. A group of local young adults received support to host and plan the event as well as perform spoken word, music and personal and traditional stories. 18 Hours is a regional Development Education Centre supporting teachers with global and citizenship education through training and resource provision. There is often an educational aspect to our events, which emphasise community, inclusivity and diversity in all its forms. In particular we have:
PAST PROJECTS Hastings Storytelling Festival is an annual week-long event every November. All stories for under 10’s are free. Schools can get involved by having a visit from the Storyteller in Residence and/or Artist in Residence to give pupils unique, unforgettable and educational cultural storytelling experiences and/or make costumes for the storytelling parade. In addition between 18 Hours provides free funded Global Education CPD to Hastings schools. This programme continues until December 2017. OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCHOOLS Get involved in: Global education activities; global teachers network; participate in free training; receive free resources; and participate in a range of local events/festivals, in particular the Hastings Storytelling Festival. |
