We've been asked by Arts Council England to help spread the word about a survey created on behalf of the Jazz South, Ambition for Excellence Project, awarded to Turner Sims.
The first major piece of work to take place, is an audit of activity and people engaged in jazz/improvised music across the south of England. The project will then be able to reach out to offer tailored opportunities to support ambition, skills and opportunities to the community. The survey is relevant to the professional and non-professional jazz and improvised music sector, youth and music education. There is one month to complete the survey – great if you can help spread the word to people working in jazz on your patch. All details (including info about a prize draw!) via this link: http://bit.ly/jazzsouthaudit For more information about the project go to: https://turnersims.co.uk/about-us/jazz-south/

Battle Festival presents: James Wilton Dance, LEVIATHAN Friday 19th October 8pm Battle Memorial Hall LEVIATHAN follows Ahab, a ship captain hell-bent on capturing the white whale: Moby Dick, a beast as vast and dangerous as the sea itself, yet serene and beautiful beyond all imagining. Ahab’s crew are drawn into the unhinged charisma of their captain, blindly following him on his perilous adventure towards almost certain destruction. Multi-award winning choreographer James Wilton re-imagines Herman Melville’s seminal novel, Moby Dick. "It’s bold, innovative and exhilarating. It’s James Wilton Dance’s best production to date." 4.5★ The Reviews Hub Featuring a cast of 6, Wilton’s trademark blend of athletic dance, martial arts, capoeira and partner-work, LEVIATHAN will have you on the edge of your seat. It will leave you gasping for air under the sheer ferocity of movement, all accompanied by a powerful electro-rock soundtrack by Lunatic Soul. BIG DRAW WEEK Monday 15 – Friday 19 October For Key Stage 1 - 4 students across Rother and Hastings FREE, booking essential https://www.dlwp.com/event/big-draw-week/ We are all in constant dynamic interaction with each other and the world around us. Becoming more conscious of how we are influenced by experiences and how we affect others is increasingly recognised as an important relational skill. Teachers are invited to join Jo Evans, creative therapist from A Space, to explore Iniva Creative Learning’s Emotional Learning Cards. These cards look at ways in which mental health and wellbeing can be supported through the encounter with visual art. The set of cards entitled What do relationships mean to you? will be used as a starting point to open up dialogue and exploration through introducing interactive tasks focusing on a set of questions. EMOTIONAL LEARNING CPD WORKSHOP Wednesday 17 October 4.00 – 6.30 pm For teachers, community group leaders and creative therapists £10 per person, booking essential https://www.dlwp.com/event/emotional-learning-cpd-workshop/ On Friday 28th September Ex Cathedra will be doing a big Singing Playgrounds event for BBC Music Day Get Singing. The BBC Music Day is signposting all UK schools to our event and they will be filming it. We will be streaming the event live so that schools from afar can participate via their whiteboards. You can find the event on the Ex Cathedra Facebook page at 10.15am until 11.30am on Friday 28th September . The aim is to get children jumping and laughing and dancing and singing in their classrooms with us from afar. I know we will have schools tuning in from across the world. https://www.facebook.com/excathedra/ The project challenges schools to get as many children playing Singing Playgrounds singing games at lunchtime that day too. It is hoped that schools will send in photos and film to the BBC twitter #GetSinging #BBCMusicDay @excathedrachoir @RebeccaLedgard @singplaygrounds For more information on the BBC music day go to: https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/egrz3d BookTrust’s School Library Pack offers all schools in England with Y7 intake a pack of 40 free books and accompanying resources for the school library.
