Funding for schools to purchase musical equipment (UK)

18/10/2017

Schools in the UK, that wish to purchase musical instruments and equipment can apply for funding of up to £2,000 through the EMI Music Sound Foundation's Instrument and/or Equipment Awards. To date the Foundations has made awards to over two thousand schools, individual students and teachers improve their access to music through the purchase or upgrade of musical instruments and equipment.

The funding must be made for music education that is beyond statutory national curriculum music teaching. The Foundation cannot fund retrospectively and schools are not eligible for financial assistance under this scheme if they have already purchased their instruments or if they do so before their application has been approved.

The closing date for applications is the 31st January 2018. Read more at: http://www.emimusicsoundfoundation.com/index.php/site/awards/

Dear Teachers!
Hastings Storytelling Festival is here again!

WORKSHOPS

We have a couple of spaces left for our very exciting very free school workshop making carnival costumes with our artist in residence from HSF...Sarah Evans.
Workshops are available from Monday 30th October until Thursday 9th November. They take about 1.5-2 hours.

This year we are celebrating India and it's 70 year anniversary of independence. We will be making headdresses and hand held pompoms shakers for the children to wear and shake at this year's children's parade on Sunday 12th November. It's going to be a glorious celebration with several amazing carnival bands to accompany the parade. We will also have visiting carnival companies joining us with their sparkly Indian themed creations.

We would love to timetable you in for a free workshop. Please let me know asap if you would like to be part of this year's carnival.

BIG DRAW at De La Warr - this Saturday

11/10/2017

Celebrate the universal language of drawing and get your mark making moving.
12 noon – 4pm

Led by Jane Fox and Tessa Martina with Make Your Mark.

Create fabulous drawings inspired by the sculpture and postcards in the exhibition The Way Things Are. How will you make your mark? What can you use to make a mark? What will happen once you begin? Are you curious about where drawing can take you?

Facilitated by a professional artist and a peer arts worker with lived experience of mental health challenges, these drop in activities are open to everyone (all ages, skills and experience), and will encourage you to consider the possibilities of drawing.

Stop by for ten minutes or stay for the whole day and experience the energy that is created when people get together to make their mark.
A free, drop in drawing event as part of a Year of Drawing, delivered with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, will increase access to the arts for people facing mental health challenges and their carers through participatory drawing events across Sussex and Hampshire.

The fabulous ThinkNation Team have their short film premier this Friday at 68 Middle Street. The screening will be followed by an audience Q & A participation with Jake Davis (Ex-Anonymous and LulzSec) and Richard Jones (National Cyber Crime Unit). A must for Computing, Business, Ethics and other teachers and practitioners. Please book your ticket and share the event with your networks.

"A Hackers Story" is a 20 min documentary exploring how an informal or "casual" group of people - who has a vision but no contract - assemble and act on it to hack global organisations. What triggers them to carry out a hack or share confidential intel? In other words, why do hackers work, and what role could or should they play in our world? What risks do they pose to our security - are they an asset or a threat? How can young people be better informed on the realities of hacking and the wider implications?
